Sea Shepherd – Gypsea Swimwear

9 Feb

I was so delighted to receive a parcel in the mail from my favourite brand Gypsea Swimwear. They have recently joined up with Sea Shepherd to release a new one piece swim suit which raises awareness for the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society as well as helping raise funds too. A majority of the sales of these swimsuits goes directly to Sea Shepherd Conservation Society to help them continue the amazing work they do to protect our oceans! I couldn’t be more happy to get on board with this, and help educate people about Sea Shepherd as well as helping to raise funds through Gypsea Swimwear.

For those of you who haven’t heard of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society (SSCS), it is an international non-profit, marine wildlife conservation organization. Their mission is to end the destruction of habitat and slaughter of wildlife in the world’s oceans in order to conserve and protect ecosystems and species.

A while ago, Isabel Lucas took part in a campaign, where she swam out on a surfboard in Taiji Japan alongside other surfers, celebrities and musicians to help raise awareness to the 250,000 dolphins / whales killed each year in Japan. They paddled out into the stained red waters, to show the world just how horrific the scene was. Professional Surfer Dave Rastovich quotes “The reason we surfers were there was to share the water, stained red with blood, at eye-level, with our ocean kin awaiting their execution”…. “Despite the fishermen taking great pain to hide their acts of cruelty, we seized this as an opportunity to bring this travesty to the worlds attention”. And indeed they did.

The Area fishermen, who kill dolphins and whales for their meat, along with capturing some of them to sell to marine and captive swim parks, netted off the bay and constructed green tarps to shield the slaughter from prying eyes and front-line cetacean activists bent on shutting down the dolphin trade forever. When the activists learned of over 30 pilot whales, including calves, being herded into the narrow rocky cove at Taiji, they did not hesitate to return despite the distinct possibility of violent resistance and police arrest.

That is one of my favourite animal activist stories – as not only does it show the passion inwhich these people have for the whales / dolphins, but it demonstrates how powerful our passion can be towards making a change in the world.

Pet Medical Crisis

2 Feb

I am really inspired by this amazing organisation called ‘Pet Medical Crisis Fund’.
They do amazing work assisting people who cannot afford vet bills and life saving surgery for their much loved pets who would otherwise have to be euthanised. Please show your support for this amazing group by heading over to their FB Page and ‘liking’ it. Better yet you can still donate to keep their great working going!

Find out more about their FB Page here
